How much does a cremation urn cost?
An urn is one of the few funeral costs you can control completely. Prices range from under $50 for a keepsake to several thousand for a bronze memorial — but almost every family is served well somewhere in the middle. Here is what the bands actually buy you, and what we charge.

What you can expect to pay
A solid quarried-stone adult urn generally sits between $120 and $250 online. Hardwood is similar. Metal and ceramic swing wider — mass-produced brass starts near $60, while cast bronze or hand-blown glass can pass $1,000.
Our own range runs from $50 for a small keepsake to $350 for the largest hand-finished stone pieces, with the typical order around $170. Shipping is free over $100 and most orders leave within one business day.

Why funeral home prices are higher
Funeral homes typically mark urns up two to four times over the wholesale price because the urn case is a small part of a much larger service bill. The FTC Funeral Rule gives you the legal right in the United States to buy an urn elsewhere and have the funeral home use it, at no extra handling fee.
If you have already been quoted a price by a funeral director, it is worth comparing before you sign. Nothing about buying online changes the service — you simply bring or ship the urn to them, or have the remains released in the temporary container and transfer them yourself.
What actually changes the price
Material and how it is made matter more than size. A solid block of quarried marble turned on a lathe costs far more to produce than a poured resin urn with stone dust in it, and it will look different in ten years. Engraving, a display base, and expedited shipping are the usual add-ons.

- Hand-finishing and unique veining add cost; moulded uniform pieces do not

Where not to economise
Two things are worth paying for: enough capacity, and a closure you trust. An urn that is 20 cubic inches too small has to be returned during the worst week of your life, and a lid that does not seal properly is a risk every time the urn is moved. Everything else — finish, base, engraving — is preference.

Common questions
- How much does a cremation urn cost on average?
- Most families spend $120–$250 on a full-size adult urn. Keepsakes for sharing ashes generally cost $50–$95 each.
- Do I have to buy the urn from the funeral home?
- No. Under the FTC Funeral Rule a funeral provider in the US must accept an urn you bought elsewhere and cannot charge you a fee for using it.
- Is a cheap urn a bad urn?
- Not automatically — but check the material description. 'Cultured marble' is resin with stone dust and can yellow in sunlight, while quarried stone will not.
- Does the crematory provide anything free?
- Yes. Remains are returned in a plastic or cardboard temporary container at no cost. You can transfer them into your urn yourself when you are ready.
- How much extra is engraving?
- Expect $25–$75 for a name, dates and a short line. Laser etching on stone usually costs more than an engraved metal plate.
- Do you charge for shipping?
